Status of Shanghai Port
Shanghai Port had experienced sever congestion and backlog in the past two months due to the outbreak of Covid-19 in city. At the peak, the waiting time for tankers, bulkers and containerships did reach up to 66 hours according to VesselsValue, the Maritime marketing company.
While the waiting time did fall back to around 30 hours in the late May, the shipping agents and trade companies are expecting another business season from August to October as the yearly high season (Source from Caixin, the China leading economic newspaper). European and American companies start to get the supplies in stock for the traditional festivals like Thanksgiving, Christmas, and the New Year.
Ukrainian-Russia war
Although the Shanghai Port congestion seemed ceasing, for European countries, they were still under the heavy influence of the short on the global supply chain not only because of the lock-down in Shanghai but also the Ukrainian-Russia war. Therefore, Joerg Wuttke, president of the EU Chamber of Commerce in China, stated they were experiencing an incredible uncertainty1 they had never had before. And situation is no better for America either.
